Website Outdates

Is My Website Outdated?

If you have to ask that question, chances are, you already know the answer.  I’ve been developing websites since the early 2000’s, and I’m shocked to see some old styles and designs from back then still around today.  It’s like when you see a ’67 Shelby Cobra crusin’ down the highway… just not as awesome.  While great content is important, having an updated design helps attract and keep new visitors.  Does your web page take forever to load?  Does it look funny on your smartphone?  Does it work on all browsers?  Do you know how to tell?  Here are a few “signs and symptoms” of an aging website and what you can do about it.

  1. Is it a Flash site?
If your entire site was made with Flash, it’s outdated.  Flash is like the old Lexus GS300 with the bubble headlights… they used to be cool.  Flash isn’t supported everywhere, and it when it is, the performance varies.  Flash can have a significant lag-time for loading the page, a no-go when it comes to websites and visitors.
  2. Splash Pages…
No, No, No… These sites that have some image that says, welcome to blah blah blah, click here to enter the site.  These are definitely a thing of the past.  No one likes these by the way.website_slices
  3. Is it made of slices?
Is your text actually text?  Is it apart of an image that makes up your design?  This is a nightmare to manage and definitely not SEO friendly.
  4.  Lack of CSS and JavaScript
These days, every website is using at least HTML, CSS and JavaScript.  If you don’t have all three, fire your web designer.
  5. Was it built 10 years ago?
When was your site built?  If it’s been 5-10 years since you’ve had a website redesign, you should consider contacting CEL3 Media.  You need your site to stay current with the times, styles, design, and technology of the information age.

There you have it.  Five ways to tell if your website it out dated.  Just think about this, even Google keeps their site design updated… And they just have a couple buttons and a search box.
