Summer has arrived and Richmond is heating up with local festivals.  Richmonders love any excuse to eat!  I kicked off the season with one of my favorite foodie festivals, Broad Appetit.  This family friendly festival features (say that 3 times fast)  small plates served up by Richmond’s best restaurants and food trucks.  Each vendor tries to offer up big flavors on each small plate for around $5.  This festival gives restaurants a chance to try out new dishes or showcase their specialties to the masses.  This year didn’t disappoint as the weather was particularly nice.  There was a cool breeze in the air and more seating was available in the shade.  In years past the hot southern heat and sunshine caused me to just grab my food to go!  But this time, I was able to listen to music in the air from local bands as I enjoyed this food lover’s paradise.  Here are just a few things I got to enjoy this year:

Check out Millie’s signage and lovely cashier!

Millie’s — meatballs and fresh slaw.  I looked forward to tasting something from this local hot spot.  This small plate had great flavors and crisp light summer slaw.  It was a great start but the wind gusts made us wear our lunch!

Chef Mamusu serves up delicious West African cuisine with a warm smile.  Her restaurant, Mamusu’s is a Richmond must try!

This year I was drawn to a lot of great signage.  As a graphics and design company we notice these little details.

Richmond shows off it’s patriotic spirit.  Check out these American flags waving to onlookers over Broad Street.

Let’s not forget that this is an artsy town.  I found a little painter creating her masterpiece on this art bus.

I also ran into Richmond’s Yelp leader, Laurie and the lovely ladies over at Richmond Magazine!
